If the thought of a surgical facelift seems like more work and trouble than you need for subtly sagging skin, a PDO thread lift could be an excellent alternative for you! While not as dramatic, PDO thread lifts can provide subtle and natural improvements to skin laxity, wrinkles, and other aging signs. At Rejuvenate MD, we would love to provide this treatment to you if you think it could be beneficial!
What is PDO thread lift?
A PDO thread lift uses a dissolvable material called polydioxanone (PDO) to subtly lift sagging skin through a minimally invasive procedure. As such, a PDO thread lift is a non-surgical alternative to traditional facelifts. With that being said, the results of a PDO thread lift are not as dramatic as surgical facelifts, making them better suited to patients who are looking for subtle improvements to their facial skin.
During a PDO thread lift, a surgeon will make a small incision into the skin in the treatment area with a needle before inserting a cannula, or tiny medical tube, into the insertion through which the surgeon can anchor the PDO threads in place. Once the PDO thread is in place, the surgeon will remove the cannula, cut the thread, and ensure that it is securely in place. The PDO thread lift procedure is performed using a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. As such, the procedure should not cause you any pain.
In addition to lifting sagging skin, PDO thread lifts also boost collagen production to renew your skin at the cellular level and contract fat tissue to tighten your skin in the treatment area.
How long does a PDO thread lift last?
Results from a PDO thread lift are seen immediately, particularly the skin lifting and contouring effects, and can last for 12 months or more due to the increased collagen production provided by the polydioxanone threads. With that being said, the length of time that a PDO thread lift will last varies according to several factors, including the patient’s age, the health of their skin, the thickness and quality of the threads, and the patient’s metabolic rate. As such, younger patients will often experience longer-lasting results from a PDO thread lift than older patients due to increased skin elasticity and volume, on average.
Which areas can be treated with the PDO threads?
PDO threads can be used to treat any of the following areas:
- Crow’s feet, or fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
- Marionette lines
- Nasojugal folds, which occur underneath the eyes around the tear troughs
- Nasolabial folds, which are also called smile lines or laugh lines
What is the recovery time after a PDO thread lift treatment?
Since PDO thread lifts are non-surgical, the recovery time from a PDO thread lift procedure is minimal. With that being said, you may notice some bruising and swelling for a day or two after the procedure, but this is completely normal and should go away promptly. You should be able to go home shortly or resume most of your daily routine and activities after the procedure. Your provider will also give you instructions on things to avoid and proper care for the treatment area following the procedure.
